Lord, put us on the path of peace.

THE GOSPEL

Matthew 24:37-44

Therefore, stay awake! … be prepared.

Come,
 Father, of all,
wake us up for the
coming of his kingdom.

Let us find Jesus now, in the crimson colored dusk,
in his crescent moon and flying geese,
show him in laughing children,
and in brothers and sisters
wherever we find
them.

Always awake, watching for him.
with our hearts open wide,
so we each and all
can

“greet him
the days I meet him,
and bless when I
understand.”

Quotation from stanza 5 of “The Wreck of the Deutschland” by G.M. Hopkins

THE FIRST READING
Isaiah 2:1-5

They will beat their swords into plowshares.

War
no more!
Never again war!
Cause us to drop our weapons,
and turn our missile cruisers into lifeboats.

We yearn to walk in your light,
washed in your peace.
Let us rise from
every city on
earth,

and climb your holy
mountain.

THE SECOND READING
Romans 13:11-14

Let us throw off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Now
 is the hour to
rouse from our sleep,
and take up the work of daylight.

Jesus, be our light this day.
Throw darkness
out.
