Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we find in the resurrected Christ both the way to the God and God’s life giving presence with us

For all the newly baptized: that their faith may continue to grow and that their desire to offer loving service to those in need may never waver

For the gift of peace: that Christ’s gift may abide with us and sustain us through all the challenges of life

For our growth as children of God: that God will give us the grace and strength to love God with all our hearts and keep the commandments God has given us

For the grace of reconciliation: that we may be instruments of forgiveness and reconciliation, and be open to God’s forgiveness in our lives

For Confessors, Spiritual Directors and all ministers of reconciliation: that the Holy Spirit will give them insight and words of wisdom to open others to the length and breadth of God’s love and mercy

For the grace of healing: that God will heal our wounds of body, mind and spirit and enable us to become instruments of healing and hope for others who are wounded today

For openness to questions: that we may explore the questions that arise in our minds and hearts and thereby discover fuller insights into the mind and heart of God

For a blossoming of faith: that God will enrich our faith so that we may be victors over the lies, illusions, and false promises that secular culture promotes

For eyes of faith: that we may recognize God’s presence in the many ways God chooses to come to us and with faith cry out, My Lord and My God

For all believers: that we may be of one mind and heart, offering witness to God’s presence in our world, and compassion for all in need

For all assembled this day: that we may see how to share our time, energy, and resources to relieve the suffering and burdens of others

For all who are questioning their faith: that the witness of the scriptures will lead them to new and deeper understanding of God’s presence and action in their lives

For all who are approaching death: that they may know God’s sustaining love as they journey into the fullness of life

For the leaders of nations: that the Spirit will inspire and guide their efforts to find peaceful and lasting resolution to the nuclear challenges of today

For all who serve in the military: that God will preserve them from harm and bring them safely home to their loved ones
