THE GOSPEL

Matthew 17:1-9

His face shone like the sun.

 O,
Christ,
 let us see.
Let us find you

shining

like our sun;
or in the sliver of a moon;
in migrating geese; in
the evening sky;
the spider’s
 web;

workers, coffee growers,
crossing guards,
in homeless
people.

Let no one and no place
ever be hidden from
the glow of your
Godly, earthly
presence.

Let us find your glory
 in all things.

THE FIRST READING

Genesis 12:1-4a

All the communities of the earth will find blessing in you.

It
started
when Abram
 left his father’s house;
left everything that he owned,
taking a journey on unknown paths.

And he asked God to make it a blessing,
which became a grace
 for all nations,
and for
 us.

Lord,
fill us too
with blessing
   wherever we go—
in all we do, in each
and every person we meet.

THE SECOND READING

2 Timothy 1:8b-10

Bear your share of hardship for the gospel
with the strength that comes from God.

 Lord,
what is it
  that saves us?

Is it
what we do?
is it how we pray?

Or is it the
“grace bestowed on us
  in Christ Jesus before time began”?

 Well,
if you pour
your grace into us,

then
of course
we can bear
the gospel hardships

that you use to bring life to the world.
