THE
GOSPEL
Matthew 5:13-16
You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world.
|
Help us share our bread with the hungry,
shelter the homeless, the oppressed,
and clothe the naked.
Let us do what salt does.
Let us shine like
the light.
Teach us to give,
a little at first,
then all we
have.
THE
FIRST
READING
Isaiah 58:7-10
Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer.
|
Will you break through our busy schedules and
free us just to see wounds and hunger?
To look beyond what we do
and care
for those in need?
Let us hear you
as you say
to us,
“Here they are.”
THE
SECOND
READING
1 Corinthians 2:1-5
I came to you in weakness so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.
|
Paul came,
speaking not words of sublime understanding,
not elaborate terms of human argument,
but simply the mystery of Christ,
preaching nothing but
the crucified.
Christ,
Lord, give us his salt
and savor.
