Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may be a Light to those who are searching for direction and illuminate the path through our words and deeds of compassion and justice

For God’s blessing on the New Year: that God will fill the coming days with health of body, mind, and spirit; lead us into a deeper relationship with Christ, and inspire us to live the Gospel faithfully each day

For greater trust: that, like the Wise Men, God’s Light may guide us into the uncharted future, calm our fears, and help us to trust God’s love and care for us

For all who are seekers: that God will lead those who are confused or searching for a new beginning onto a new path that will be filled with meaning and purpose

For all who desire commitment: that God will lead them to new experiences, new relationships, and new opportunities to grow and discover connections for their lives

For a spirit of wonder: that our hearts may be awestruck as we recognize God’s gifts to us in our faith, our relationships, and our opportunities

For migrants and refugees: that God will help them to establish new lives and experience justice and respect in their new homeland

For catechumens and candidates: that their search for Christ and a Christian Community may lead them to an ever-deepening experience of Emmanuel

For a renewal of prayer in our lives: that we may make time for God each day of this year and be attentive to God’s invitations and promptings in our hearts

For greater unity and co-operation within the human family: that God will heal the wounds of racial bias, open hearts to the talents of every person, and help us work together against violence, drug abuse, and poverty

For all recovering from natural disasters: that God will guide them through the challenges that they face, renew their spirits, and open the hearts of many to assist and encourage them

For the new Congress that convenes this week: that the Spirit of truth will guide their deliberations and promote a spirit of co-operation that will yield the common good

For all who are ill: that God will heal the sick, comfort loved ones who are struggling, brighten the day for those in isolation, and strengthen all caregivers

For the people of Bethlehem: that God will ease their burdens, open economic opportunities, and establish justice for them

For the gift of peace: that all hearts may strive to reject violence and yearn to follow the ways of the Prince of Peace
