Reflecting on the Gospel and Living the Paschal Mystery
|
Key
words and phrases: It is finished, immediately blood and water flowed out
|
To
the point: "It is finished." The Passover is completed for Jesus, who, through his death, has been "raised high and greatly exalted" (first reading).
But it is not yet finished for us, his disciples. In baptism we are bathed in the
water flowing from Jesus' side and united with him to continue his mission.
In the Eucharist we consume the blood he has poured out for us and are called to pour out our blood for others. We are initiated into his Passover, and nourished
to remain faithful until, for each of us, "It is finished."
