Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may live like Jesus and spend our lives in loving service, washing the feet, carrying the burdens, and comforting the brokenness of one another

For the grace to love: that we may love one another as Christ has loved us, forgive our enemies, and affirm the dignity of each person

For the grace of unity: that divisions may be healed, unity restored, and that we may support one another in bringing forth the reign of God

For all who are gathered here: that through our sharing in the Body and Blood of Christ, we may give faithful witness to his dying and rising until He comes again

For those who cannot eat at the table of the Lord: that our love and friendship may offer them communion and an experience of God’s presence

For those to whom we are committed, particularly our families, communities, and friends: that we may be faithful to them and support them along all of life’s journeys

For our brothers who are priests: that they may be renewed by God’s love and faithfully follow the example of Jesus, the great High Priest, as they lead us in worship

For those who have nothing to eat or who feel abandoned this night: that God will fill the emptiness in their bodies, their spirits, and their emotions

For Christians who are persecuted, particularly in the Mid-East: that God will strengthen their faith, renew their courage, and make strong their witness to the Gospel

For a transformation of society: that God will touch the hearts of many and guide them in bringing the truth of the Gospel to into their families, their workplaces, their civic communities and society at large

For all who have been betrayed or suffered abuse or torture: that God will heal their pain and help them to trust again

For the sick, for those approaching death, and for those with mental illness: that God will send an angel to comfort and strengthen them

For all who serve our daily needs, for those who care for the sick, for those who console the grieving or who respond to emergencies: that God will renew their strength and fill them with peace

For those recovering from natural disasters: that God will renew their spirits, ease their pain, and speed the assistance which they need

For the gift of peace: that God will bring an end to all war and violence and help everyone to live in safety and freedom
